Private Eyes Indicted in Massive Identity-Theft Scheme Involving HP-Style “Pretexting”

For those who haven’t seen it yet, the subject of ‘pretexting’ is back in the news, with a number of private investigators facing identity theft charges in relation to their attempts to obtain private information on behalf of their clients. More details can be found on Wired.

All members of Freelance Security are reminded that they are forbidden from requesting or offering illegal services, and all investigations provided through the site should be conducted using legal methods only. In addition, Freelance Security will remove any projects found to be requesting phone records or statements (including records of text messages), no matter where the records are held, and will ban any Consultant offering to obtain such records.

Thanks for your help in making sure that we keep things above board!
